Musical Opportunities at St. Ignatius
You can participate in Music at St. Ignatius by joining one of our fine ensembles, by singing with enthusiasm at Mass, and by attending special services. It is our desire that the Music at St. Ignatius enhance the liturgy and deepen your worship experience.
Consider joining this vital ministry of the church. Your participation is not only rewarding but crucial for our success.
St. Ignatius Choir
The St. Ignatius Chancel Choir sings weekly at the 10:00 a.m. Mass. Additionally, the Choir sings for the liturgically rich celebrations of Christmas and Easter along with the other great feasts of the church year. New members are welcomed and encouraged. Be an integral part of liturgies at St. Ignatius, get to know some wonderful people, and learn some excellent music to lift your soul. Your level of experience doesn’t matter. Your solo ability is not an issue. All that God asks is a willing heart. Trust Him to take care of the rest!
Rehearsals are on Sunday mornings at 8:45 in the choir room, just prior to the 10:00 a.m. Mass.
St. Ignatius Cantors
The Cantors are critical to the music liturgy at St Ignatius. They lead the congregation in singing at all Masses and special services. Cantors are auditioned. Each must have a clear voice with good pitch, and possess the skills to create a good rapport with the congregation.
Rehearsals: In the choir room, 30 minutes prior to Mass.
St. Ignatius Congregation
Bach said "He who sings, prays twice." Congregational singing does not enjoy the long tradition in the Catholic Church as can be found with our Protestant friends. Therefore is is all the more important that we as practicing Catholics participate fully in the liturgy as we obey the exhortation of the psalmist to "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord." As congregants sing with joy, so then does that joy inhabit the space of worship, uplift the priest as he celebrates, and strengthen the Body of Christ as we are one in spirit and in voice. Congregational singing enlivens the liturgy and takes us to the throne of God.
St. Ignatius Instrumentalists
If you play an instrument, there is a place for you in service at St. Ignatius. Please let us know that you are willing to play for Masses throughout the year. Contact us with information about your gifts and let us include you in worship.
